About the role 

We are currently recruiting for an enthusiastic temporary part time Child Care Centre Cook to be part of an exciting new integrated team at our Knox Children and Family Centres.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and upbeat person to plan and prepare nutritious, well-balanced meals for children attending the long day care service in a manner consistent with their preferences, cultural differences and dietary requirements and in accordance with food safety guidelines and Centre procedures. The major accountabilities of the role are the menu planning, food purchasing within budget parameters, preparation and delivery of meals and adherence to food safety practices and guidelines outlined in service nutritional policies.

This is a job share role to backfill on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday between the hours of 9:00am and 2:00pm.

This is a Band 3 classified role, remuneration will be $66,045.65 - $70,515.27 pro-rata for part time, plus superannuation in accordance with the Superannuation Guarantee.

What you will bring to this role  

  • Certificate in Food Handling – HLTFSE001, HLTFSE007, HLTFSE005;
  • Community and Health Food Safety Supervisor (desirable);
  • Experience in the area of food preparation and nutrition for large groups;
  • Experience in preparing dietary requirement meals (e.g. preparation of meals for consumption by a child with allergies);
  • Experience in monitoring a Food safety program (FSP), Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) in cooking for large groups of children from a commercial kitchen;
  • Proficient communication skills, verbal and written;
  • Ability to implement a Food Safety Program;
  • Current Mandatory Reporting certificate, or ability to acquire;
  • The skills and knowledge needed for entry to this Band would normally be acquired through 4 years of secondary education plus a short industry-based training course or some on-the-job training.
