About the Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Geospatial Analyst, to join our innovative Research and Geospatial Analytics team, as a Technical Lead. In this role you will be pivotal in leading the design, build and implementation of Council’s new GIS, while also managing the upgrade, configuration and maintenance of existing systems and applications. Your key responsibilities will include trouble shooting, problem solving, testing, scripting and configuration, data migration, extraction, validation and transformation, plus database design and administration. As a forward thinker, we expect you to capitalise on your ability to lead and work collaboratively across Council. You will report to the Coordinator Research and Geospatial Analytics and support the other members of the Research and Geospatial Analytics team, to enhance data driven decision making by Council staff, for the benefit of the Knox community.

This is a full-time temporary role up to 30 June 2025, based at our Civic Centre, and a range of flexible work options are available for the right candidate.

This is a Band 7 classified role, remuneration will be $107,507.54 - $120,572.47 (depending on experience) plus superannuation in accordance with the superannuation guarantee.

What you will need to thrive

In order to thrive in this position you will have:

  • Strong experience in the development, configuration, administration and integration of data sets in a data warehouse, to populate systems such as IntraMaps, QGIS, POZI and MBS Premium.
  • Experience with data integrations, compilations and transformations, using tools and technologies such as OGR, ETL, WMS, API, Google Earth, FME and SQL Server.
  • Proven ability to monitor, maintain and troubleshoot systems, through the automation and scripting of updates, logs, backups, and scheduled tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake data modelling, spatial analysis and data visualisation, using tools such as QGIS, SQL Server, PowerBI, Python, Daxx, IntraMaps and MapBuilder, and to present these insights effectively to a range of audiences.
  • Strong ability to communicate technical issues and engage and collaborate effectively with a wide range of people, to determine needs, explain complex concepts, and provide sound recommendations to Council and other stakeholders.
  • Excellent project management skills with experience managing complex projects on time and within budget, including design and scoping, project evaluation, and management of contractors and consultants.
