We have a fantastic opportunity for a Cadet Engineer to join the Infrastructure Directorate during their final year of tertiary studies. As part of this Cadetship, you will gain a range of experiences across the organisation, including project management, feature survey work, detailed design, traffic and transport planning, asset management, civil construction, landscape and open space planning, and stormwater engineering. Mentoring and support will be provided in order for you to gain and enhance your skills as well as engaging in council’s personal development programs. Throughout the program you will be contributing to the Knox Community, developing and sustaining a vibrant, attractive and safe local environment. Upon successful completion of your engineering degree you will be offered a 2 year full-time graduate role.
Year 1 is a part-time temporary Band 3 classified role. Remuneration will be $68,027 (pro-rata) plus superannuation in accordance with the Superannuation Guarantee.
The graduate role in years 2 and 3 is a Band 5 classified role. Remuneration will be $80,377 to $93,517 plus superannuation in accordance with the Superannuation Guarantee.
What you will bring to this role
In order to be successful, during 2026 you must be in your final year of study towards a Civil Engineering Degree with the ability to commit to a minimum of the equivalent of 6 weeks works spread throughout the year (approximately 1 day per week). Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to build positive working relationships is essential. You will be committed to your personal learning journey and keen to develop your skills as a professional engineer.
The key selection criteria for this role are:
- Currently undertaking study towards a tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering that will make the candidate ultimately eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer in accordance with Victorian legislation.
- An enthusiasm to learn and an ability to enhance comprehension of engineering concepts and apply them in a practical environment.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to build positive working relationships.
- An understanding of personal knowledge gaps and ability to seek additional resources and support where required.
- An understanding of relevant AustRoads guides, Australian Standards and other technical reference material.
- Ability to analyse problems and make decisions on a day-to-day basis within level of understanding of engineering concepts.
- Knowledge of Autocad and engineering analysis programs is desirable.
- A demonstrated record of achievement and consistent performance.
