About the role 

We have an exciting full-time permanent opportunity for a motivated, team-oriented person to step into the role of Sustainable Transport Officer in the Traffic & Transport team at Knox City Council. As the Sustainable Transport Officer, you will contribute to the development and achievement of sustainable transport initiatives, programs, policies and strategies that will lead to less reliance on single occupancy cars, better use of pedestrian and cyclist facilities, greater use of public transport, and increased road safety.

A key function of this role is assisting the Sustainable Transport Planner to achieve the sustainable and active transport objectives of Knox Council. The current Sustainable Transport Planner was previously in the Officer role. Therefore, they will be able to guide and mentor the new Sustainable Transport Officer.

In this role you will liaise with residents, public transport users, schools, local businesses, cycling and walking groups and authorities to assess, inform and influence their travel behaviour and to strengthen sustainable transport opportunities in Knox. The position includes planning and supporting programs and events that encourage the use of sustainable transport including Council’s bike fleet. The Sustainable Transport Officer also performs site investigations, surveys and design work and supports the planning and delivery of Capital Works and minor works projects relating to sustainable transport.

This is a full-time permanent role based at our Civic Centre. We support flexible and hybrid working arrangements while ensuring operational needs of the role are met.

This is a Band 5 classified role. Annual remuneration will be $80,377 to $93,517 gross per annum (depending on experience) plus superannuation in accordance with the Superannuation Guarantee. 

What you will need to thrive in this role  

  • Demonstrated commitment to encouraging the use of sustainable transport
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the capacity to communicate messages in a variety of ways to influence and persuade people
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of sustainable transport planning and projects
  • The ability to manage projects including planning, budgeting, evaluation and reporting within a set time frame
  • Knowledge and understanding of community engagement/public participation techniques and practices
  • Ability to analyse problems and make decisions on a day-to-day basis
  • Computer literate and good skills with Microsoft Office Products
