About the role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Management Accountant to play a key role in delivering high-quality management accounting services and supporting strong financial decision-making across the organisation.
Working within a collaborative finance team, you will contribute to Council’s budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting processes, while also supporting the development of financial capability across the business. The role provides expert advice and insights to senior stakeholders and contributes to the continuous improvement of financial systems, reporting and processes.
With one direct report, you will also play an important role in supporting asset accounting activities including capitalisation, depreciation and reporting, while working closely with teams across the organisation to ensure strong financial governance and performance.

This is a full-time temporary role available until 30 September 2027, based at Knox Civic Centre. We support flexible working arrangements while ensuring operational needs of the role are met.
This is a Band 6 classified role. Remuneration will be $98,353.35 to $107,416.64 (depending on experience) plus superannuation in accordance with the Superannuation Guarantee.
What you will bring to this role
The key selection criteria for this role are:
- Substantial experience in the application of and the understanding of Australian Accounting Standards.
- Substantial experience in budgeting and forecasting processes including long term financial forecasts.
- Relevant experience, knowledge and skills in all aspects of asset management specifically asset capitalisation, depreciation, disposal and revaluation.
- Demonstrated experience in conducting staff training in budget and forecast preparation and use of financial software.
- Substantial experience, knowledge and skills in preparing monthly management financial reporting and respective variance commentary.
- Demonstrated experience in a complex environment fostering teamwork and collaboration.
- Typically, they would be gained through completion of a degree or diploma course with some relevant experience. They might also be acquired through lesser formal qualifications and substantial relevant experience, or through substantial relevant experience in the field of specialist expertise.
- Degree or Tertiary qualification combined with relevant experience.
- CPA Australia or Institute of Chartered Accountants qualification preferred (or working towards).
- Relevant knowledge and experience in management and/or financial accounting.
