We have an exciting opportunity for a Project Officer – Open Space Play Assets to join our Infrastructure team within the Green Spaces and Environment department.

About the role

As our new Project Officer – Open Space Play Assets, you will make a meaningful impact by delivering the effective management, maintenance and renewal of minor playground assets across the municipality, ensuring safe, high-quality and sustainable outcomes for the community.

Key responsibilities include coordinating the maintenance, repair and minor renewal of Early Years Hubs, playgroups and open space playground assets, leading and overseeing internal staff and contractors, and ensuring all works are delivered in accordance with relevant Australian Standards, legislation and Codes of Practice. The role will also deliver capital works programs, manage budgets and asset management systems, undertake audits and risk assessments, and support continuous improvement initiatives across open space services.

You will report to the Coordinator – Urban Forest and City Presentation and work collaboratively with internal departments including Early Years and other Council teams, as well as contractors, community groups and stakeholders. This role contributes to Council’s strategic vision by embedding sustainability principles, supporting safe and engaging play environments, and delivering services that meet community needs.

This is a full-time role based at Knox Operations Depot. We support flexible working arrangements while ensuring operational requirements of the role are met.

This is a Band 6 classified role. Remuneration will be $98,353.35 to $107,416.64 gross per annum (depending on experience), plus superannuation in accordance with the Superannuation Guarantee.


What you will bring to this role

The key selection criteria for this role are:

  • Demonstrated experience in the management, maintenance and renewal of playground or open space assets.
  • Relevant qualification (minimum Certificate III) in Horticulture, Parks Management, Sustainability, Turf Management or related field, or substantial equivalent experience.
  • Current Level 2 (minimum) certification in Playground Safety, Standards and Maintenance.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising staff and contractors to deliver works safely and in accordance with service standards.
  • Sound knowledge of asset management, contract management and delivery of capital works programs.
  • Experience conducting audits, risk assessments and OH&S processes.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritise and problem solve effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and asset or project management systems.
  • Current Victorian Driver’s Licence and Working with Children Check.
