About the role
Sitting within the Strategic Infrastructure Department, the Coordinator Traffic and Transport leads the planning, coordination, and advocacy of traffic and transport initiatives across the municipality. Your core focus will include:
- Providing clear direction and effective leadership to the team, ensuring appropriate staffing, defined responsibilities, cohesive teamwork, capability development, performance feedback and access to required resources.
- Developing and implementing traffic and transport strategies, policies, and plans aligned with Council's long-term vision
- Contribute to the development and delivery of annual work plans, business plans, budgets and departmental priorities aligned with Council’s corporate direction and long-term objectives.
- Provide authoritative traffic and transport advice, reports and presentations to Council, Councillors, senior officers, internal departments, community members and other stakeholders, and represent Council at tribunals, planning panels, public meetings, forums and deputations.
- Build effective partnerships across Council and with government, agencies, service authorities and the community; coordinate stakeholder input; advocate for road and transport improvements; and promote Council’s roles, services, facilities and achievements.
This is a full-time permanent role based at the Knox City Council Civic Centre. We support flexible working arrangements while ensuring operational needs of the role are met.
This is a Band 8 classified role. Remuneration will be $134,338 to $150,831 (depending on experience) plus superannuation in accordance with the Superannuation Guarantee.
What you will bring to this role
The key selection criteria for this role are:
- Tertiary qualification in engineering and holding Registered Professional Engineer status for Victoria and suitable for full membership of the Institution of Engineers Australia
- Demonstrated experience in a local government, transport agency or consultant environment, with sound knowledge of the Victorian planning and traffic engineering framework
- Leadership, direction and people management capability, with appropriate technical expertise, in order to drive the required business outcomes of the team and organisation
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly and with influence, including the ability to understand and adapt to the audience to gain support and commitment by others
- Confident stakeholder engagement skills, including experience preparing reports for elected representatives or senior leadership
- Demonstrated skills in financial and budget management
- Strong project coordination skills with the ability to manage competing priorities across a varied portfolio
- A current driver's licence
