About the role  

We have an exciting opportunity for a Community Projects Officer to join our Community Partnerships and Inclusion team, part of the Community Strengthening Department within the Connected Communities Directorate. 

In this role, you will support and deliver community development initiatives that contribute to a prevention-focused approach to community safety and wellbeing across Knox. You will work closely with communities, partner organisations and internal Council teams to help people understand, navigate and manage community concerns, providing information, support and referral where appropriate. 

A key focus of the role is delivering actions under the Knox Gambling Harm Prevention Policy and contributing to the Council and Health and Wellbeing Plan 2025–2029. You will assist with community engagement, project coordination, data collection and analysis, and the delivery of local initiatives that strengthen community resilience and promote safer, healthier neighbourhoods. 

Reporting to the Coordinator Community Partnerships and Inclusion, you will be part of a collaborative, values-driven team working across community safety, harm prevention and community development priorities. 

This is a permanent part-time role (0.57 EFT), primarily based at the Knox Civic Centre in Wantirna South. Knox supports flexible and hybrid working arrangements, while ensuring operational needs are met. 

This is a Band 5 classified role. Remuneration will be $80,377.95 to $93,517.76, pro rata (depending on experience) plus superannuation in accordance with the Superannuation Guarantee.   

What you will bring to this role   

The key accountabilities for this role include: 

• Understanding of community development and health promotion theory, with a strong commitment to human rights, social equity and evidence-based prevention approaches, including identifying drivers of harm, assessing risk factors and supporting effective prevention responses.  

• Experience engaging with diverse communities and a broad range of stakeholders, including groups disproportionately impacted by inequality, and working collaboratively with Council, community organisations, Victoria Police and other partners to support safer, healthier neighbourhoods.  

• Sound project coordination skills, including planning, delivering, monitoring and evaluating community development and community safety initiatives, projects, meetings, workshops and events aligned to key strategies and action plans.  

• Ability to act as a contact point for community safety and resilience matters, including responding to enquiries in a confidential, timely and professional manner, triaging issues, managing data, and addressing non-urgent or non-complex matters.  

• Well-developed written and verbal communication and negotiation skills, including the ability to manage enquiries, navigate community concerns and contribute to effective collaboration and problem solving.  

• Strong digital capability, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to quickly learn new systems and platforms, alongside experience collecting, managing and using data to inform planning, partnerships and continuous improvement.
