About the Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a City Researcher to join Knox City Council. The City Research and Mapping service is delivered by a passionate team of city strategists, policy researchers, and spatial analysts who provide expert advice to support Council policies, decision-makers, and the community at large. 

As our City Researcher you will provide specialist advice, deliver research projects and data analysis to support the strategic goals of the department with an emphasis on promoting positive outcomes for our community on important social, economic and environmental issues.

Working closely with your team, you will support the development and implementation of cross-organisational initiatives to improve understanding and the application of environmental, economic and social principles that align with the Knox Council Plan. You will also support and drive the implementation of Smart Cities projects and applications across the organisation.

This is a permanent 4 to 5 days per week, Band 6 classified role. Remuneration will be $89,229 - $97,452 p.a (depending on experience) plus superannuation in accordance with the Superannuation Guarantee.

What you will need to thrive

In order to thrive in this position, you will have:

  • A motivated, enthusiastic and collaborative approach to work and an ability to contribute in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement a wide range of research methods and data analysis applications, combined with skills in preparing reports, data visualisations and presentations.
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills and the ability to respond to internal or external enquiries with a customer-centric approach. 
  • Curiosity and passion for learning and applying new and emerging technologies for data analysis and presentation, and self-development capability when faced with new challenges, emerging issues or gaps in knowledge.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Social Science, Geography, Statistics or relevant field will be highly regarded
  • Previous experience in the application of a wide range of technical software packages is preferred
